Forall Systems developed a Palm-based handheld system that allows building inspectors to synchronize their Palm OS
devices with Kimco's interactive website using a conduit or wireless synchronization application.
Building inspectors carry Palm OS devices equipped with bar code scanners. When entering a building, an inspector
uses the barcode scanner to retrieve the building information and document their route action. The Palm OS
application leads the inspector step-by-step through the various inspections that need to be completed. All
inspections are automatically date and time stamped, and inspectors can enter their own comments.
When building inspectors synchronize their device with the server, that day's inspection information is uploaded
to an SQL database. The information is immediately available to customers and management via Kimco's Interactive
Website. This synchronization may be accomplished using a desktop computer or via a wireless synchronization application using
the inspector's mobile phone.
